On March 6, 2017, Kamari Belmont, aged 23, was shot and killed shortly after being released from Cook County Jail in Chicago. Belmont had faced murder charges for a 2015 shooting that resulted in the death of Sorrell Marshall. These charges were eventually dropped in January 2017 after prosecutors failed to provide a speedy trial.
