On June 7, 2023, in Wilson, North Carolina, 61-year-old Rosa Mae Smith Outlaw was tragically killed in a domestic incident. Authorities responded to a call around 1:55 a.m. reporting a domestic disturbance at 3909 Chickasaw Court. Upon arrival, deputies safely evacuated three children from the residence before entering. Inside, they discovered Rosa Outlaw deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Her husband, 65-year-old Jarvis Outlaw, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his face; he was alert and communicative at the scene.
Following medical treatment for his injuries, Jarvis Outlaw was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife. He was taken into custody and held without bond at the Wilson County Detention Center. Neighbors expressed shock, describing the couple's relationship as seemingly harmonious, with no prior indications of domestic issues. Rosa Outlaw's passing was deeply mourned by the community. A visitation was held on June 23, 2023, at the Chapel of New Beginnings Funeral Service, Inc., followed by funeral services on June 24 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina. She was laid to rest at Staton Memorial Cemetery.
