In the early hours of April 13, 2023, the life of 33-year-old Brenda Ochoa Guerrero, a female resident of Alexandria, Virginia, came to a tragic end. The events that followed her death would slowly unravel a grim story of her final moments, culminating in multiple arrests. Her body was discovered later that morning, around 10:45 a.m., inside her own vehicle which had been left in the parking lot of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.
Responding officers and medical personnel found her in the passenger seat with significant trauma to her upper body and pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined that the hospital parking lot was not where the initial crime had occurred. An autopsy would later confirm that Brenda Ochoa Guerrero died from a gunshot wound to her upper body. Through their investigation, detectives traced the location of her death to a residence in the 2500 block of Fairhaven Avenue in Alexandria. Surveillance footage from the hospital proved to be a critical piece of evidence, capturing two men parking Ochoa Guerrero's vehicle at 1:11 a.m. and then departing the area in a separate SUV.
The investigation led to the identification of four individuals connected to the case. In May, authorities charged David Littlefield, 43, Eric Thompson, 36, and Yuris Pineda Gallegos, 29, with felony concealment of a body. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Littlefield and Thompson driving Ochoa Guerrero's car to the hospital. Authorities claim another vehicle, driven by Eric Antonio Rubio, 36, with Pineda Gallegos as a passenger, picked up the two men from the hospital parking lot.
Months later, in October, the investigation reached a significant turning point when forensic evidence led to more severe charges for one of the suspects. Eric Antonio Rubio was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, in addition to the initial charge of felony concealment of a body. Rubio is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The other three individuals face charges related to the concealment of Ochoa Guerrero's body as the legal proceedings continue.
