A domestic dispute in Clio, Michigan, escalated into a tragic double homicide on March 26, 2024, leaving 31-year-old Ron Tatro and another individual dead. The series of events began with an argument between domestic partners earlier in the day, which intensified that evening.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Eric Bennett, allegedly shot Tatro multiple times while Tatro was on the phone with his mother.
Following the initial shooting, 51-year-old Kasi Ane Gipe arrived at the scene to investigate the situation and was also fatally shot by Bennett.
Law enforcement responded to multiple 911 calls reporting domestic violence and shots fired. Upon their arrival, Bennett continued to be actively shooting. Body camera footage released by authorities showed officers attempting to de-escalate the situation, with one officer heard saying, 'We don't want to shoot you.' However, Bennett proceeded to fire at the officers, prompting them to return fire.
After subduing Bennett, officers secured his weapon and administered medical aid. Bennett ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene. In total, three people, including the suspect, died as a result of the incident. The officers and deputies involved in the shooting were placed on paid leave, which is standard procedure in such cases. Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson described Bennett's actions as those of an active shooter committed to taking multiple lives.
