On a Saturday night in Tell City, Indiana, the life of Aaron D. Waninger, a 43-year-old male, was tragically cut short. On February 3, 2024, law enforcement received a distressing 911 call from a woman who stated her boyfriend had been shot. Officers from the Perry County Sheriff's Office and the Tell City Police Department were dispatched to the scene, where they found Waninger unresponsive.
Despite their immediate efforts to provide life-saving aid, he could not be revived.
The investigation into Waninger's death was quickly taken over by the Indiana State Police. Detectives at the scene identified the woman who made the 911 call as 51-year-old Tonya L. Coomer. After speaking with Coomer, investigators determined that she was responsible for the shooting of her boyfriend, Aaron Waninger. Coomer was subsequently arrested and transported to the Perry County Jail. She is being held without bond and faces serious charges, including a Level 1 felony for murder and a Level 5 felony for criminal recklessness with a firearm.
Aaron Waninger was a 1999 graduate of Heritage Hills High School and worked in industrial maintenance. He was known as a loving father who enjoyed involving his children in his hobbies, which included fishing, hunting, and playing golf. Described as intelligent and mechanically skilled, he often volunteered his time to help others with various projects. His family and friends remembered him for his loving nature and quick wit. He is survived by his two children, his parents, and his siblings. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of his death as the investigation continues.
