On December 19, 2016, Shiek Williams, age 37, was found dead in a ditch near the intersection of Joos and Jones Road in Jacksonville's Westside. The body was discovered by a passerby who noticed Williams while driving through the area early in the morning. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Williams had been shot, and his body was left at the scene. Law enforcement identified Williams later that day, and the investigation into his death was immediately launched.
This homicide case was linked to gang activity, with an arrest being made years later for the planned hit against Williams. Despite the arrest, details surrounding the motive and the individuals involved have remained part of an ongoing investigation.
