In Eloy, Arizona, a young man's life was cut short on May 11, 2014. Victor Luis Arenas, a 25-year-old male, died from gunshot wounds sustained during an encounter with police who were investigating a burglary. Born on September 13, 1988, in Florence, Arenas was described as a gentle, kind, and passionate person with a million-dollar smile. He worked in manufacturing and was deeply devoted to his family, cherishing the time he spent with them and his children.
On that Sunday in May, law enforcement was responding to a report of a burglary in progress. During the course of their investigation, an interaction with Arenas occurred that resulted in him being fatally shot by an officer. The incident left his family and community to mourn the loss of a man who enjoyed camping, going on trips, and being with his loved ones.
In the wake of his death, those who knew him remembered a man who was always there for his family when they needed him. He is survived by his companion, two daughters, his parents, and numerous siblings. His family held a visitation and funeral Mass at St. Helen of the Cross Catholic Church in Eloy to honor his memory.
