On July 27, 2012, in Hampden, Maine, Katherine Hunt, 53, was fatally shot in her home by her boyfriend, Lawrence Beaute, 53, who then took his own life. Hunt, a welder at General Electric in Bangor, was in the process of ending their relationship, which investigators believe led to the tragic events. Beaute, originally from Jacksonville, Florida, had moved to Maine in July 2011 to live with Hunt and was employed as a medical technician at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor.
