On November 6, 1974, 40-year-old house painter John Wayne Bradford and his colleague, 34-year-old Edward Thomas Arnold, were traveling in a 1956 Buick Century near Donnelly, Idaho. During their journey, they offered a ride to two hitchhikers: 24-year-old Thomas Eugene Creech and his 17-year-old girlfriend, Carol Spaulding.
