In the late summer of 2021, the close-knit community of Warren, Rhode Island, was shaken by the sudden and violent death of one of its most dedicated public servants. Brian Remy, a 66-year-old Caucasian male, was a lifelong resident and the respected assistant chief of the Warren Fire Department, having volunteered since 1973. His life was tragically cut short on the evening of Thursday, September 2, 2021, an event that sent ripples of shock and grief through the town he had served for nearly five decades.
The tragic events unfolded at the Italo/American Club in Warren, where Remy was present. An argument erupted between him and another man, identified as Michael Ouellette, who was the president of the club. Following the dispute, Ouellette left the premises and returned with a firearm. In a senseless act of violence, Ouellette shot and killed Remy. He also shot and wounded another man at the scene before fleeing.
