On a tragic Monday afternoon in Williston, North Dakota, the life of 16-year-old Anne White, a Caucasian female, was cut short. On October 18, 2010, in the front yard of her home at the Glenn Villa Trailer Park, Anne was shot by her 18-year-old former boyfriend, Gabriel Dye. The incident, which occurred around 3:18 p.m., ended a young life and left a community in mourning.
Anne was a junior at Williston High School where she was an active member of the choir.
Her relationship with Gabriel, a freshman at Williston State College, had ended about two months prior to the fatal encounter. On that day, Gabriel used a semi-automatic pistol to shoot Anne before turning the weapon on himself. Emergency services were called to the scene, and both teenagers were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Williston.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Anne White was pronounced dead at the hospital. Gabriel Dye was airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot for treatment of his self-inflicted gunshot wound, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries either during the flight or shortly after his arrival. The event was determined by law enforcement to be a murder-suicide, with Gabriel Dye as the sole suspect in Anne's death. No other individuals were sought in connection with the shooting. The loss of the two young people prompted the local school district to implement a crisis intervention team to support students grappling with the tragedy.
