In the Alaska Native village of Gambell on remote St. Lawrence Island, 37-year-old male Alaskan Native Benjamin Booshu was named by Alaska State Troopers as a person of interest in the disappearance of a young woman. Troopers announced on Friday, May 20, 2016, that he had killed himself earlier in the week; according to the agency's spokesman, he shot himself outside his home on Tuesday, May 17, before investigators could question him.
