On July 3, 1907, Joseph Allen, a 45-year-old police officer in Fort Collins, Colorado, was murdered while on patrol near a notorious area called "The Jungles." This part of town, known for its bars, brothels, and illicit activities, was where Allen was ambushed and struck in the head multiple times with a brick.
