A firefighter dies while putting out a fire due to arson
The unsolved case of Eugene McDonough’s death dates back to September 4, 1998, in Lyndonville, Vermont. McDonough, a firefighter with the St. Johnsbury Fire Department, was responding to a fire at the PMI commercial building, which manufactured large rolls of paper. Tragically, during the suppression efforts, a brick wall collapsed on him, causing fatal injuries. His death was ruled a homicide when investigators determined the fire had been deliberately set, classifying it as arson.
