On March 5, 1988, 77-year-old S.E. Ritchey and his wife, Ethel, returned to their rural home in Williamson County, Texas, after closing their laundromat in Taylor and shopping for groceries. As they unloaded their car in the driveway around 10 p.m., they were violently attacked. Mr. Ritchey suffered severe head injuries from a blunt object, while Mrs. Ritchey was knocked unconscious.
