Donald Cornett, age 54, was fatally shot on April 6, 2007, at his residence in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. at 8309 Hanfro, where Cornett was found lying on the front porch of his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. According to witness accounts, two suspects entered the enclosed front porch of Cornett's home in an apparent attempt to rob him. During the attempted robbery, a struggle ensued, which led to Cornett being shot. The suspects fled the scene in a small vehicle, described as possibly being light blue or gray in color.
The suspects were identified as two Black males. One was described as being 20 to 30 years old, dark-complected, and heavyset, wearing a red over white shirt. The other suspect was around 50 years old, medium build, and wearing all black. Authorities released a composite sketch of one of the suspects, in hopes of gathering more information from the public. The Houston Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact their Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers to assist in solving the case and bringing the suspects to justice.
The case remained open with Houston Police seeking public assistance in identifying the individuals involved. The circumstances of Cornett’s death are emblematic of a tragic home invasion, with the intended robbery escalating into a fatal confrontation.
