Treavon Lewis, a 22-year-old resident of Fort Worth, Texas, was one of two individuals fatally shot on June 25, 2016, during an unauthorized party at a hip-hop dance studio known as Studio 74. The tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning, and the Tarrant County medical examiner identified the victims as Treavon Lewis and 18-year-old Jordan Larkin. In addition to the two fatalities, five other individuals sustained injuries during the shooting, which authorities suspect was gang-related.
The violence erupted as gunfire was exchanged between unidentified individuals in the parking lot of the dance studio and across the street. Witnesses at the scene reported chaos, with blood staining the outside of the studio and broken glass from a trophy case scattered across the floor. According to the owner of Studio 74, Laura Reyna, the group involved in the shooting was not authorized to be at the facility, which was meant to serve as a community "safe haven" for hip-hop culture and local youth. Reyna emphasized that the studio typically focused on dance and community outreach, striving to keep young people away from violence and similar events.
Despite initial statements that arrests were imminent, Fort Worth police reported that no suspects had been taken into custody in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Officer Daniel Segura confirmed that homicide detectives were working diligently on the case, but as of yet, no one had been apprehended. The community continued to grapple with the aftermath of the violence, highlighting the ongoing struggle against gang activity in the area and the impact on local youth and community programs like Studio 74.
