On October 12, 2017, Eugene Duke, aged 65, was shot and killed in what appeared to be an attempted robbery while walking home in north Houston. The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. in the 800 block of Lehman Street. Duke had just left a nearby store on North Shepherd and was walking back to his home when a small four-door, white or gray vehicle, reportedly missing the front left quarter panel, passed by him.
