In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 24, 2013, a violent intrusion shattered the peace of a Memphis home. William Rodgers, a 41-year-old Black / African American male, was inside his residence at 1015 Palermo when one or more unknown individuals forced their way in and opened fire. The sudden eruption of gunfire in the pre-dawn darkness proved fatal for Rodgers.
Responding to the scene at 3:49 a.m., Memphis Police officers discovered Rodgers suffering from the assailants' attack. Memphis Fire Department personnel were also present and pronounced him deceased at the scene. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an intensive investigation by law enforcement.
Homicide investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the deadly home invasion.
