James Hayes, aged 49, was found dead on July 25, 1976, in Sandusky, Ohio. His body was discovered lying in a field between the Maples Motel and the old Cedar Point Roadway on Cleveland Road. Hayes had sustained three gunshot wounds to the head. The investigation into his death revealed that he had last been seen in the early morning hours, drinking in the Searsville area until around 5:00 am.
