On January 4, 1992, Inez Berg, an 89-year-old resident of Akron, Ohio, was the victim of a violent burglary at her home located at 103 W. Miller Avenue. During the incident, she was assaulted, resulting in a broken arm. In the aftermath of the attack, Inez began receiving threatening phone calls, some of which were death threats. The stress from the assault and the subsequent threats proved overwhelming.
Tragically, Inez suffered a fatal heart attack on January 19, 1992, which authorities have linked directly to the traumatic events of the burglary and ongoing harassment. As such, her death was ruled a homicide.
