Terryl Rucker, a 26-year-old African American man from Oakland, California, was fatally shot on the evening of November 1, 2014. The incident occurred outside Al-Awdi’s Mini Mart and Kitchen, located at 3841 West Street near the MacArthur BART station. At approximately 8:07 p.m., Rucker was approached by at least one individual who opened fire, striking him multiple times. Despite his injuries, he managed to reach the doorway of the store before collapsing. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that Rucker was a frequent visitor to the area but did not reside in the neighborhood. His death marked the 71st homicide in Oakland that year, a slight decrease compared to the 81 homicides recorded at the same time the previous year. The shooting was part of a violent week in the city, which saw multiple fatal incidents, including the killing of a 22-year-old man in the San Antonio neighborhood and another homicide in the 1600 block of 69th Avenue.
Law enforcement officials did not immediately release a motive for the shooting, nor did they provide a description of the suspect or suspects involved. As of the latest available reports, no arrests had been made in connection with Rucker’s murder. The Oakland Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward, offering a reward of up to $10,000 for tips leading to an arrest. Crime Stoppers of Oakland also encouraged individuals to provide any relevant details that could assist in solving the case.
