On August 17, 2015, Alexander Elizares, a 31-year-old man from Oakland, California, was shot multiple times near the intersection of 45th Avenue and Bancroft in East Oakland. Despite the violent attack, Elizares managed to make it a few blocks away before succumbing to his injuries. Elizares was described as a developmentally challenged adult who led a normal life, working two jobs and raising a 9-year-old son.
