On a warm early evening in Great Bend, Kansas, on September 4, 2002, the Dolly Madison Bakery outlet was the scene of a tragedy that would haunt the community for years to come. Inside, a delivery driver made a grim discovery: the bodies of two women, 79-year-old Caucasian female Mary Drake, a customer, and 24-year-old Mandi Alexander, a new employee at the bakery.
